Immigration Policy Updates
UT Dallas has learned of the revocation of a limited number of student visas or immigration status changes by checking the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), a tracking system for exchange visitors used by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Legal Implications
Termination of a SEVIS record has serious implications on the ability of a student to remain in the United States. UT Dallas closely monitors SEVIS and has notified all affected F-1 students and alumni whose status has been terminated. Individuals are strongly encouraged to seek experienced immigration legal counsel to advise them of their available options. UT Dallas does not recommend or endorse any specific legal course of action.
Academic Implications
Students whose ability to study in the U.S. will or may be disrupted should work closely with their academic department to understand their academic options for the remainder of the semester and beyond.
Employment Implications
In accordance with regulations, affected students lose their work authorization effective immediately without a grace period. This includes assistantships, on-campus or off-campus work, optional practical training (OPT) and STEM OPT. If employed by UT Dallas, individuals should work with their supervisor and Human Resources to stop all work.
